MTB Kauai Launches as a Non-Profit to Elevate Mountain Biking on the Garden Isle

KAUAI, HI – October 9, 2025 – MTB Kauai, a new non-profit educational association, officially announces its formation and mission to create, enhance, and preserve a world-class network of mountain biking trails throughout Kauai County. The organization is also committed to fostering the next generation of riders to introduce keiki to the sport and provide a healthy outdoor activity. Beyond the thrill of the ride, MTB Kauai emphasizes environmental stewardship, with trail maintenance activities actively removing invasive species and replanting of native Hawaiian plants.

Born from the passion of a small group of residents who have for decades maintained trails, MTB Kauai is now formalizing its efforts to make mountain biking a major sport on the island. The club will work with various land owners to establish official trail networks with clear mapping and signage, and provide education on progressive skill development and safety. This will help ensure the protection and longevity of the trails for future generations.

“This is an exciting time for mountain biking on Kauai,” said Bob Morrell, the club’s Chair. “Our island has incredible potential, and our goal is to bring the community together to make that potential a reality. Every member and volunteer directly contributes to the trails they love to ride, ensuring their future for generations to come.”

Membership is vital to the club’s success and provides a number of valuable benefits. Members will have exclusive opportunities for community involvement through volunteer trail maintenance and organized group rides. They will also receive a 10% discount on mountain bike parts and priority repairs at participating bike shops as part of a new partnership. Membership fees and volunteer efforts are crucial for funding necessary tools, materials, and the professional maintenance required to create and protect the island’s singletrack.

On October 25th, from 8:30 am to 11:30 am, join us at the Lydgate Park Main Pavilion for  The Friends of Kamalani & Lydgate Park’s Make a Difference Day to sign up for your membership in person. Those who sign up at the community workday event will be recognized as “Founding Members.”
